Day 2, Venice
Depart for Venice and enjoy time at leisure to explore the city. In the afternoon, meet your guide for a tour of the exclusive Venetian Ateliers and discover Venice's top handicraft traditions: velvets, brocades, marbleised paper, books and leather bindings, papier-mâché Carnival masks, gold and silver jewelry, beads and other wonders. (B)

Head for the hills of the Belluno Dolomites and arrive at Bassano del Grappa at the base of Mount Grappa where the River Brenta flows into the Po. Stroll across the alpine bridge built by Palladio in the 16th century. Lunch will be served at a typical Trattoria, which will consist of a simple menu made up of the local seasonal produce. Afterwards, enjoy a tour of the Grappa Museum and taste some grappa and other spirits. This afternoon, we recommend visiting Marostica, the city of chess. (B, L)

Day 4, Padua – Verona
Drive to Padua, known for the Giotto frescoes in the Scrovegni Chapel and the vast 13th century Basilica of St. Anthony, and enjoy time at leisure. Continue to Verona. Visit the market held in the Piazza delle Erbe e della Frutta where the season’s fresh produce is sold. Proceed to the old centre to see the Arena amphitheatre, the Ponte di Pietra (“stone bridge”), the Arco di Gavie arch and the Basilicas of San Zeno and San Fermo. Also see the Scaligeri graves, Castel Vecchio and Juliet’s famous balcony. Near San Zeno, stop at the Pasticceria Zeno Gelati e Cioccolato for an ice cream and chocolate pralines.
